Based at Southampton Town Quay, the Hythe Ferry takes you across from Southampton to the little city of Hythe. it’s a great car-free way to visit Hythe and give you the views of Southampton from across Southampton water.

The Hythe Ferry runs daily across Southampton Water and takes you to the end of Hythe’s Historic Pier, which is one of the ten longest piers in the UK. Take a trip down this historic pier on the World’s Oldest Pier Train which gives you the sights of the water and the small town of Hythe.

The passenger ferry service is a way to get across to Hythe or to Southampton. Both places have a lot of heritage that is waiting to be explored.

Where can you get the Hythe Ferry?

You can get the Hythe Ferry from Southampton Town Quay, Terminal 2, Southampton, SO14 2AQ, or from Hythe Pier which can be found at The Pier, Prospect Pl, Hythe, Southampton SO45 6AU.

How much does the Hythe Ferry cost?

You can get a family ticket for £22 which includes 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children. All fairs include the pier train.

A child ticket is for anyone aged 5-15 years of age. Under 5’s go free.

Dogs are welcome on the Hythe Ferry for free.

How long is the Hythe Ferry?

It only takes 15 minutes to get from Hythe to Southampton using the Hythe Ferry. It’s a lot quicker than driving. Make sure you get the World’s Oldest Pier Train which is included in the price and a great way to get down the pier quickly.

Does Hythe Ferry take cars?

No, Hythe Ferry does not take cars. Hythe Ferry only takes foot passengers.

What time does Hythe Ferry stop?

What can I do in Hythe?

If you are looking for a way to enjoy the New Forest without your car then the New Forest tour by bus is the way to do it. You can get the New Forest Bus Tour from the end of Hythe Pier and enjoy a day out with the whole family.

It is completely family-friendly and a great way to explore the New Forest National Park. The New Forest is the perfect place to find hidden gems in Hampshire. Finding things to do in Brockenhurst and Lymington with the kids can be hard, especially if you don’t know the area very well. The bus tour is the best way to find things to do! Take a picnic with you and hop on and off as much as you like. Make sure you sit on the top deck and get the wonderful open views of the New Forest.

If you buy your New Forest Bus tour tickets through the Hythe Ferry then you get free travel on the Hythe Ferry.

You can also catch the Hythe Ferry and train, which is a great way to start your journey. You can get the Hythe Ferry from The Pier, Prospect Pl, Hythe, Southampton SO45 6AU. You can turn up and pay to get on. The journey takes about 20 minutes across the water and the World’s Oldest Pier Train will take you to the center of Hythe.

Southampton Common – Based right in the center of Southampton City and designated “Site of Special Scientific Interest”by Southampton City council, Southampton Common is a large open space that is home to The Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre, a lake, a play park, and a large flat field. Southampton Common covers a huge area of Southampton is great for scooters and buggies. There’s plenty of parking around the outside and you never have to take the same path twice. Old Town Southampton – Walking through Southampton it’s hard not to notice all the old-style walls and the Bargate. Southampton goes back to Medieval times. If you walk to the north end of the city, you can walk along the walks, through the town quay, and really see our city for its old roots. There are loads of walks you can take with panels on the walls explaining the area and what you can see.

Mayflower Park – Based in the middle of Southampton right on the seafront. This park has plenty of green space, and parking and has a park at the top end. It’s not huge but is great for a sunny day and a cycle or scoot around. It’s completely flat and a great place to do circuits.

Tudor House – Built in the 15th century, the Tudor House is half-timbered and was renovated to show the world how the Tudors lived and worked. Every room in the house is dedicated to showing what the Tudor times were like for different families. Make sure you visit the gardens too as they show a stunning side to such a dark piece of our history.

Solent Sky Museum – Back in the 20th century, Southampton was a huge aviation manufacturer. Solent Sky Museum is a great place to come and explore the very best in aviation. With over 15 complete airframes which include the Spitfire, you can really get a fill for what these planes were like. This is an interactive museum with accounts of what it was like to build these planes and fly them.

Southampton Art Gallery – Family-friendly, the gallery is home to over 3,500 works, ranging from Renaissance masterpieces to contemporary video art. Exhibitions change regularly so there’s always something to do and see. Opening times are Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays.

SeaCity Museum – This museum is great for colder or rainy days when you need to do something inside. This opened on the 100th anniversary of the Titanic’s departure from the city. The museum is based on the Civic Centre which also holds the police station and court. You can watch re-enactments from survivors while really seeing what it was like to be on the Titanic. There are loads for the kids to do too. This is interactive and a great way to introduce the story to the younger generation.
