Silchester Roman City Walls and Amphitheatre
About 10-miles away from Whitchurch, the Silchester Roman City Walls used to be a large and important Roman town.
Part of English Heritage, this keep is a great place to take the kids. Let them runaround and explore the area where actual Romans lived and worked.

Based in a conservation area with over 1000 years of history, Bombay Sapphire Distillery is great for families with older kids.
They do loads of events and guided tours which takes you all around and shows you how this amazing drink is made.

The Grange at Northington
Set over a beautiful landscape, The Grange at Northington is about 10 minutes away from Whitchurch. This 17th century brick building is mind blowing to see. It does have steep steps and some uneven ground though but it’s a great place to explore and take a picnic.

The Hawk Conservancy is a day out like no other. This is a 22 acres of woodland that gives you access to over 100 birds of prey. Enjoy the amazing flying displays and environmental projects that the conservancy is part of. The trust is a conservation charity and have a mission to conserve all birds of prey.

Whitchurch Silk Mill
Whitchurch Silk Mill is a 19th-century watermill that weaves English silk fabrics. The mill is believed to be the last surviving example of silk weaving by hand.
The weaving sheds show what it would have been like to work over the looms and how, in time, production grew and how it changed.
Have a look at the Original Mill Wheel, and visit the stunning gardens around the mill which is a great place for the kids to play and walk the trail.
The Riverside Café offers food for all times of the day including snacks and hot drinks.

Curtis Museum
Open all year, Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, the Curtis Museum houses a collection by Dr William Curtis and his associates in the local Mechanics Institute.
The museum covers 100 million years of history and displays include prehistoric tools, Roman pottery reconstruction, Saxon burials, the Battle of Alton 1643 and the notorious tale of Sweet Fanny Adams.

Milestones Museum
Milestones Museum is about 10 minutes from Whitchurch but is a great family-friendly museum. Run by Hampshire Cultural Trust, the Milestones Museum walks you through our history on cobbled streets and through the vehicles we’ve used and the shops we used to visit. This is really is a living history museum that lets you explore and interact with the past.
Milestones have a really impressive collection of vintage vehicles that even the children loved investigating. They loved being a 19th-century firefighter and had loads of questions about how the steam-powered fire engine worked. They also have a classic bus for the kids to explore and motorbikes and cars. It was a real flashback to see so many amazing vehicles in one place.

30 Mile Circular from Whitchurch
This circular walk takes you through Whitchurch which is a mostly flat route. It starts at the Railway Station which is near the center of Whitchurch town center.
Head south along the River Test which takes you through Leckford then Stockbridge. You’ll find loads of amazing shops and resturants here. Head south through Kings Somborne then to Houghton Lodge Gardens. This will take you back to Stockbridge along the River Test.
This is a great cycle route as well. This walking trail can take up to five hours but it’s a great way to explore Whitchurch and the surrounding natural area of Hampshire.

Millennium Green
Covering 7-acres of outstanding natural beauty, this public park is a great place to let the kids play. This is a great spot for a picnic or loads of space to play games as a family.

North Wessex Downs 50 mile Circular
This amazing trail is great for avid bike riders. It takes you through quiet country roads, flat roads, and outstanding views!

Hampshire North Off Road Cycle Trails
There are nine different routes on this trail depending on how long you want to ride for and your family’s ability.
Abbotstone Down cycle trail – This is an 18-mile moderate route that takes you through the Abbotstone Down and through the rolling chalk hills and bluebells.
Alton cycling trail – This is a 10-mile trail uses the tracks from Chawton Park Wood and then through Bentworth village. It is a moderate route which some uneven paths.
Basingstoke cycling trail – This is a 17-mile long trail that is an easily accessible route starting in Basingstoke. It takes you around the River Test which also gives you amazing views of the Hampshire countryside.
Blackwater Valley cycling trail – This is a 7.8 mile trail that is easy and fairly flat. It takes you by the Black Water River and other hidden areas.
Ellisfield cycling trail – This is an off-road trail that is about 13-miles long. The trail uses woods and fields. It does have a few hills as well.
Liphook cycling trail – This circular route is 9-miles long that takes you through Ludshott Common and through Bramshott village.
Vernham cycling trail – This is a hard hilly route that is great for seasoned riders. It is 23-miles long that takes you around the northwest of Hampshire.
Watership Down cycling trail – Offering you amazing scenery and quiet countryside this 17-mile trail is a hard off-road that takes you through Watership Down.
Whitchurch cycling trail – This is a 23-mile trail that is great for teens. It takes you around all the best historical sites and through the beautiful countryside in Hampshire.

Rooksbury Mill Local Nature Reserve
About 15 minutes away from Whitchurch, Rooksbury Mill Local Nature Reserve is adjacent to Watermills Park. It’s a great walk for kids as it’s full of budding wildlife and insects. There are plenty of benches to sit on to relax and the lakes look beautiful in the summertime.
This is a dog-friendly, uneven walk at times though, and can be hard with a buggy.

Longstock Park Water Gardens
Based near Stockbridge, Longstock Park Water Gardens is a beautiful oasis that is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. It is a paid site but the gardens are stunning and it’s a great place to enjoy in the summer months. They have a car park on site and it’s buggy friendly too.
