Based in the South West, Ringwood is a great place to visit. Near The New Forest National Park, Ringwood is home to many fun days out and child-friendly walks that offer loads to do for the whole family.

This New Forest market town is close to the River Avon. If you walk down West Street, and over a little stone bridge you’ll come close to it.

Ringwood is full of local history and dates back to 1226. Walk around this town and see what you can find out.

Liberty’s Owl, Raptor, And Reptile Centre

From birds of prey to reptiles, this amazing animal center is a great place to visit for the whole family. They open throughout 1st March to 1st October daily then only half terms during the winter months.

Make sure you watch one of their amazing Flight Displays which will wow you and their Reptile Show is will get you close and personal to a range of creatures from snacks to lizards.

New Forest Reptile Centre

Forget soft and fluffy, come enjoy scaly and slithery! The New Forest Reptile Centre has the best reptiles Britain has to offer all under one roof, including adders, grass snakes, smooth snakes, lizards, frogs, and toads.

The New Forest Reptile Centre has parking is onsite with a great little shop that offers snacks. There is toilets and a great picnic area as well.

There’s also a great 1-mile walk that takes you through the woodlands so you can explore the area yourself.

Walks and trails in Ringwood, Hampshire

Northern Forest Circular

This is a great cycle route for older kids. You can walk it, but it’s about 15 miles. You get a real view of the New Forest and Ringwood by cycling this trek. It’s dog friendly too if you prefer to walk the first mile or so.

Find the Northern Forest Circular at Appleslade Bottom car park, Ringwood, Hampshire, BH24 3QT.

Moors Valley Country Park

We love Moors Valley Country Park! There is so much to do for the whole family. Not only do they have peaceful walks that are mostly flat but they also have an amazing steam train and play parks throughout the park.

The Play Trail is great for the whole family. It is a mile long but has loads of wooden play equipment along the way. It took us about an hour to walk and play.

The Tree Top Trail takes you through the trees and gives you a view from above. It’s 200 meters long and is great for older kids who don’t need a buggy.

They have loads of other play areas with picnic benches which mean you are free to eat whatever you wish.

The Steam Train runs throughout the summer months and is ticket-based. It does get busy throughout the summer holidays so you may need to do that first or last.

Burley Village of Witches Mystery Treasure Trail

Close to Ringwood, Burley Village of Witches Mystery Treasure Trail is a great way to explore the town while keeping the kids amused.

This is a self-guided tour that is about 1.5 miles long. There are clues in your pack and text support if needed.

The trail starts at New Forest National Park, Burley, Hampshire, BH24 2AP

Avon Heath Country Park

From woodland areas to trails, Avon Heath Country Park has something for everyone. Walk one of the many trails that vary from under a mile to two miles.

They have six activity trails that you can use all year around and the playgrounds are great for all ages.

Bring family games and a picnic as they have fields which are great to run around on and explore.

The New Forest National Park

The New Forest National Park is based in West Hampshire and offers a range of dog-friendly and child-friendly walks that offer loads to do for the whole family.

The New Forest has loads of attractions that don’t just include walking. You could go cycling, enjoy one of the many parks or trails. Our favourites are:

Furzey Gardens

Based near Minstead, Furzey Gardens is great for younger kids. Hunt around the gardens for the fairy doors throughout the forest and leaves. This 10-acre site has a playground, lake and cottage that are all waiting to be explored. 

The Cricket Ground

This is a huge area that can get busy in the summer but is great for kids to ride their bikes as the grass is kept low. There is a small river nearby which is great for a paddle in the summer months. The car park does get busy on a dry day.

South Taste Trail

This is about 7 miles but takes you through the village and then off the beaten track into the heart of the forest. Take a picnic and the kids bikes and enjoy a family ride around Brockenhurst.

Blackwater

With a huge range of beautiful trees, this trail is great for the whole family. They have two walking trails and a cycling trail. They have toilets on-site and easy parking.

Knightwood Oak

Knightwood Oak is a great place for a picnic and a runaround. Many of the trees here are over 500 years old. There is one walking trail which takes you around the largest oak. There are no toilets here.

New Forest Water Park

Set within the New Forest, this water park is a great family day out. You can do a range of water sports from wakeboarding, kayaking and enjoy the Aqua Park.

You can book your sessions online and if you are hungry then they have a great cafe on-site too.

The Furlong

This shopping center is right in the middle of Ringwood town centre. It’s a great place to get some food, enjoy the surrounding shops and the market town that is Ringwood.
