Outside things to do in Andover

There is so much to do outside in Andover. The town has a local nature reserve and self-guided tours to explore.

Rooksbury Mill Local Nature Reserve

Just South of Andover town center, Rooksbury Mill Local Nature Reserve is adjacent to Watermills Park. It’s a great walk for kids as it’s full of budding wildlife and insects. There are plenty of benches to sit on to relax and the lakes look beautiful in the summertime.

This is a dog-friendly, uneven walk at times though, and can be hard with a buggy. You can find Rooksbury Mill Local Nature Reserve at SP10 2HA.

Charlton Lakeside

Charlton Lakeside is a great day out for the whole family. Bring your bikes and have a ride around the lakeside. Take a picnic, bring the dog and enjoy this free day out. You can find Charlton Lakeside at SP10 3JH.

Anton Lakes Local Nature Reserve

Anton Lakes Local Nature Reserve has stunning views and a beautiful lake that makes for an amazing walk. There is loads of local wildlife including butterflies and insects depending on the time of year you visit. When we visited, there were loads of swans, geese, and ducks that loved being fed. There is also a great playground for younger kids and a golf course for older ones.

Ladies Walk

This walk is an 8.4-kilometer loop that takes you by the river. This is a great free walk if you like walking. Take the dog and put on your welly boots and explore this lovely piece of countryside. You can find Ladies Walk at SP11 6LA.

Danebury Iron Age Hillfort

This is a stunning monument that is enclosed with high ramparts. This is free to visit and great on a warm day when you want to get outside. Bring a picnic and enjoy the local wildlife that roams free. Make sure you take a camera as the views are out of this world. There is on-site parking and toilets at the bottom of the hill. Longstock Park Water Gardens

Based near Stockbridge, Longstock Park Water Gardens is a beautiful oasis that is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. It is a paid site but the gardens are stunning and it’s a great place to enjoy in the summer months. They have a car park on site and it’s buggy friendly too. Zoos and Farms in Andover

There are two great animal parks in Andover. Both activities are great days out for the whole family.

Hawk Conservancy

The Hawk Conservancy is a day out like no other. This is a 22 acres of woodland that gives you access to over 100 birds of prey. Enjoy the amazing flying displays and environmental projects that the conservancy is part of. The trust is a conservation charity and have a mission to conserve all birds of prey.

Finkley Down Farm Park

Finkley Down Farm Park is a great day out for toddlers and primary aged kids. They have a huge playground with trampolines and tractors plus an indoor soft play all included in the price. The farm itself has a range of working farm animals from cows and lambs to rabbits and smaller creatures.

Museums in Andover

There are loads of amazing museums in Andover that are great for learning about local history and the surrounding area.

Museum of the Iron Age

This museum is great for all ages. You can visit the roundhouse and touch real Iron age objects. Learn more about life as a Roman and explore the hillfort. You can find the Museum of the Iron Age at SP10 1DP.

Andover Museum

This is a great free museum. Andover Museum is a great place for the kids to learn about the prehistoric times all the way through to present day. Interactive, Andover Museum offers temporary exhibitions and has a coffee shop on site. you can find Andover Museum at SP10 1DP.

Army Flying Museum

This museum hosts a range of aircrafts, uniforms and medals that really tell the story of aviation. This is great for older kids that are interested in the art of flight. You can find the Army Flying Museum at SO20 8FB.

Whitchurch Silk Mill

Whitchurch Silk Mill is a stunning industrial gem that is set right in the middle of Andover and Basingstoke. It was built in the 19th century and is one of the town’s hidden sights. Walk around this beautiful sight and learn about your local town and how it worked. You can find Whitchurch Silk Mill at RG28 7AL.

Andover Depot Skatepark

Andover Depot Skatepark is a metal skatepark that has smaller ramps with pipes. This is the perfect space for beginner skaters who want to learn how to twist and turn without the bigger slopes.

It’s outside and has plenty of parking. Andover Depot Skatepark can be found in West Portway, the postcode is SP10 3LF.
